National Swap Day SCORE!

My "new" vintage coat
I had an amazing time at my first National Swap Day!  It was held at the brand new premises of Nana, one of DC's favorite vintage clothing stores.  They literally just moved into a new storefront in Mt. Pleasant, and they welcomed folks into the new store for National Swap Day - they partnered with local blog Quarter Life for the event.

SUCH good stuff.  SUCH nice people.  So much STUFF!

They collected people's items from 11-12, then opened for the swap at 1.  I had so much fun watching all of the DC "it" girls wandering down the block with their garbage bags full of stuff, dragging them down to Nana.  I believe they had 100 spots, of which 88 were reserved before the doors even opened.  I was one of the first 10 people in line for the swap opening, like the overachiever budget fashionista that I am.  Everyone was so pleasant and calm - in fact, one of the volunteers shouted in the first few minutes that everyone was being too quiet!  No pushing, no nastiness, just awesome finds.

Swapping Chaos!

Me?  I walked out with 2 enormous shopping bags full of stuff!  It was like heaven for someone on a shopping ban.  Watch for some of these great finds on the blog in upcoming weeks - and maybe even for the 30 for 30...

My Swap Scores
  • Vintage black wool overcoat with real tan fur collar (probably 1960s - it's amazing)
  • Vintage double layered silk dress with pearl buttons (1940s, I think)
  • Not one but two LOFT wool pencil skirts - one burgundy, one gray plaid
  • Black chunky pumps by Nine West
  • Slouchy gray wool cropped pants by Free People
  • Retro silk buttondown shirt
  • Seersucker blazer
  • Black wool pleated skirt by ZARA
  • Black and pink jersey dress by BCBG
  • Kitten-heeled loafers by Enzo
  • Awesome pig tee (probably going to be stolen by The Doc)
  • And lots, lots, lots more!
Thanks SO MUCH to the ladies of Nana and Quarter Life for your amazing enthusiasm and organization!  It was such a fun event, and I can't wait for the next one.

What an amazing score! I hope DC has more events like this in the future; it's a fun community event.

Friends and I just did this over the weekend! It's so nice to get rid of clothes you aren't wearing and find new things you're excited to put on! For free!!!!! You scored some good stuff!

I was really tempted to go, but worried about the potential chaos. I'm not a confident enough shopper to deal with that. Maybe next time!
