Sigh. This town, with its riding boots and quilted jackets...and not a horse in sight.
My Look: Shirt by JCrew. Pants by BDG via Urban Outfitters. Jacket by Cynthia Rowley via TJMaxx. Boots by UGGS via Nordstrom. Necklace by Chicos stolen from mom. Bracelets by BCBG and JCrew. Sunglasses by Forever21.
This is pretty much the uniform of a certain type of mom in DC (ahem...Georgetown...ahem). Riding boots tucked into jeans with a blazer or quilted jacket. I used to see literally a half dozen moms at our old playground wearing this, like tiny little carbon copies of preppy capital style. Not like there's anything wrong with the look - but I'm tired of seeing people wearing the exact same thing. In fact, I was so tired of it that I refused to wear any version of it when we were still living in Georgetown. Now that I've moved across the city to our new neighborhood, I was feeling a bit nostalgic for Georgetown's preppy playground aesthetic. But I didn't want to feel like a carbon copy, even now.
So I added a turtleneck, which suddenly feels fresh again. Then black jeans instead of traditional blue, completing the miss-mash of neutral colors. A boiled wool jacket, with fun equestrian-esque closure, matches the vibe of the wooly riding boots (I love how the little rim of sheepskin from the lining peeks out from the suede). The big gold chain and stack of bangles feel preppy but still fun and young.
I'm ready to ride...errrr...or go down the slide!
